Oxman: The Collection
Publication Design
OBJECTIVE:
Create a comprehensive publication that explores the life and work of Neri Oxman, a renowned MIT scientist and artist who works in the field of Material Ecology, a discipline at the intersection of technology, engineering, the natural world, and art.
CONCEPT:
Much Neri Oxman's work centers around the idea that our future must be grown, not built. The book utilizes a clean, scientific typeface for body copy that contrasts with the sharply organic nature of headline and pull quote type. To reflect the organically experimental nature of Oxman's work, I utilized computationally grown typography, generated in the growth pattern of mycelia, as a visual "look and feel" element.
The publication is divided into three sections: Philosophy, Exploration, and Growth, exploring different aspects of Oxman's life. Each book is differentiated by the use of different colored mushroom type, creating variation and a distinct color palette that accentuates the work and photography seen in each individual volume.
